Oedema & wound management
Oedema, or swelling, is a natural process that occurs following injury and is also associated with some disease processes.
- Early and targeted treatments can help dramatically reduce swelling. This is important as long-term swelling can cause a variety of adverse effects.
- Strict elevation, massage techniques and ice are all strategies that are employed for remediation. Hand Therapists can assess each patient and select the most appropriate treatment for integration into a home management programme.
- Hand Therapists are also able to change dressings and to remove sutures in wounds, both post surgery and post injury. The unit is well stocked for wound care.
